UC, SHSJ Take Solo Leadership

It was a day of proving who’s who, going double overtime, recording an upset and the usual convincing wins at the Milo-backed BEST SBP/Passerelle Twin Tournaments at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit (SHSJ) Mango Campus Gym Wednesday.

The University of Cebu (UC) passed its first litmus test as pre-tournament favorites by eking out a 57-54 win over University of San Carlos (USC) North Campus in the Passerelle division. Meanwhile, defending Passerelle division champions SHSJ scored a routine 74-29 win over Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT). In the first game of the season that went into overtime, Salazar College of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) outlasted Don Bosco-A 70-63 in double overtime. The upset of the day was scored by USC North-B when it beat USJR, 66-62. In other Passerelle matches, Don Bosco-B defeated USPF, 50-40, while USC South won over SHSJ-B, 81-45.

UC’s John Aranas looks for room for a lay-up against the tight defense USC North defense of Michael Balankig (17) and Anthony Romaguerra (7) in this Passerelle division game.

In the Small Basketeers Philippines (SBP) division, USC North and Don Bosco scored their second straight wins to take solo leadership of their respective SBP groups. USC North crushed Cebu Eastern College (CEC), 68-32, while Don Bosco outscored SHSJ, 43-31. USC North-B defeated USC South-B, 31-25 as USC South-A beat SHSJ-B, 76-12.

The team standings of Passerelle division’s Group A sees SHSJ at solo first with a 3-0 record followed by Don Bosco-B (2-0), USC North-B (2-1), USJR (1-2), CIT (0-2) and USPF (0-3). In Passerelle’s Group B, UC sits on top of the standings with a 2-0 slate, followed by USC North (2-1), USC South (1-1), SCSIT (1-1), SHSJ-B (1-2), and Don Bosco-A (0-2).

In the SBP, USC North leads Group A with a 2-0 record, followed by USC South (1-1), CEC (1-1) and SHSJ-B (0-2). Group B sees Don Bosco at the top at 2-0. SHSJ (1-1), USC North-B (1-1) and USC South-B (0-2) complete the group.
