Playoff Spots Clear Up in MYBL-Cebu Hooplah

The playoffs picture is now clearer for the Division 1’s Under 15 age group of the MVPSF Youth Basketball League-Cebu (MYBL-Cebu) backed by Smart Communications after the weekend games held at the Sacred Heart School Mango Avenue campus gym.

Group A. Benthel Asia School of Technology nipped Southwestern University-PHINMA (2-1), 74-73, to top Group A with a 4-0 record, making the second playoff spot a toss-up between SWU-PHINMA and CITU (2-1). Raymond Benitez erupted for 29 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots in an all-around game. CIT-U earned its second win in three games by beating Graphics Point/Toledo, 53-36. Karl Andre Flores had a double double of 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Wildkittens.

Group B. Don Bosco Technical College-A (3-1) grabbed the second playoff spot after winning over Punta Princesa/Alas, 41-28. Christian Seno led the team with 13 points while Cris Hernando added nine points, four assists and three steals.

Group C. CLBA swept its group play (4-0) with a 61-38 drubbing of Dev. Pardo-A (2-2) to top the group. Vince Suico led the team with 15 points. Team Millennials (3-1) drubbed D Rabens A (0-4), 70-35, to take the second playoff spot in the group. Joshua Marson led the team with 19 points, three rebounds, four assists and eight steals.

Group D. UV Passerelle B (3-0) scored its third straight win without a loss through a 76-32 win over GBCL-A. Xerxes Yael Duran led the team with 13 points. Marc Abangan added 11. They tied One on One-C (3-0) at the top of the standings and both teams are safely in the playoffs. But they will play each other for the top spot of the group.

In Under 18 age group games, SCSIT (2-2) outplayed Punta Alas (1-4), 55-33, while Consolacion (1-2) nipped Dev. Pardo-A (0-4), 49-48, for its first win. Joh Paul Tabanas led SCSIT with 18 points. John Rex Nellas led Consolacion with 16. 

In an Under 12 game Don Bosco (4-0) swept Group A and formalize its playoff spot, thanks to a 42-30 win over Punta Alas. Nyjah Escobido led the team with 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

The top two teams of each group qualifies for the knock-out rounds/playoffs. The MYBL-Cebu, also supported by Cebu Landmasters Inc and PAGCOR, is composed of 118 teams spread over three age groups: Under 18, 15 and 12. Each age group has Divisions 1 and 2, with the former for competitive teams and the latter composed of developmental teams.
