Don Bosco, Omar Clinch MYBL-Cebu Playoff Berths

Don Bosco Technical College and Omar Basketball clinched berths to the next round of the Division 1’s Under 12 age group at the MVPSF Youth Basketball League-Cebu (MYBL-Cebu) presented by Smart Communications and played at the Sacred Heart School Mango Avenue campus gym. 

Don Bosco (3-0) overcame its southside neighbor Cebu Institute of Technology-University, 50-35, while Omar Basketball (3-1) cruised to a 52-28 win over Punta Alas. Spitfire AJ Prudenciado had 18 points, four assists and four steals to lead the Greywolves as Xian Garcia recorded a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Eric Estalani led Omar with 16 points and five steals as John Paul Gequilan added 12 points. Both teams now sit on top of the team standings of Group A and have qualified for the playoffs. In Group B, idle One on One is on top with a 4-0 slate, followed Benthel Asia (3-1). SHS-Ateneo B leads Group C at 3-0, as USC South (1-1) needs a win in its last game to clinch the second playoff berth in the group.

In Division 1 games of the Under 15 age group, Day-as (2-2) halted Punta Alas (1-2), 65-42, with Harfel Andoy leading the offense with 22 points and seven rebounds. Sisters of Mary School-Boystown (1-3) barged into the win column as it ousted D Rabens A (0-3), 52-45. John Paul Lozanao led Boystown with 15 points, four rebounds and three assists.

In the lone Division 1 game of the Under 18 age group, Team Adarna (2-2) eked out a 53-49 victory of Punta Alas (1-3). John Clint Castaneda had 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead Coach Rolan Adarna’s side. Carl Batiquin added 12 points and dished out eight assists.

In Division 2 games of the Under 12 age group, AAA won over Cebu Elite-A, 49-39. In Division 2 Under 15 age group games, USC South beat RYS, 45-27. USC North nipped Einstein, 41-38. In Division 2 Under 18 games played at the City of Talisay Sports Complex, ABGF Labangon trounced St. Catherine, 81-60. GAA nipped Bayswater, 69-68, and Talisay ran over RYS, 96-34.

The MYBL-Cebu, also backed by Cebu Landmasters Inc. and PAGCOR, has gathered 115 teams spread over three age groups: Under 18, 15 and 12. Each age group has two divisions. Division 1 is for the competitive teams while Division 2 is for the developmental squads.
