The Sacred Heart School-Jesuit (SHSJ), University of Cebu (UC) and Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT)-Hoop It Up scored two straight wins each in different age groups at opening weekend of the Cebu Youth Basketball League (CYBL) 2009 at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit (SHSJ) Mango Campus gym.

In the Tropang Growee 10-Under division, SHSJ defeated Don Bosco, 34-21 and PAREF Springdale, 28-12 to take an early 2-0 slate in the team standings. UC sent a strong message in Division-A play of the 16-Under age group by routing University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), 94-44, and SHSJ-A, 68-48. In Division-B of the 16-Under age group, CIT-Hoop It Up crushed SHSJ-B, 61-28, then outplayed University of San Jose Recoletos (USJR), 66-52. In the lone game of the Tropang Growee 13-Under age group, defending champions USC North nipped Royal Oaks International School (ROIS), 44-42 in a Division-A game.

In other Divison-A play in the 16-Under division, University of San Carlos (USC) South Campus defeated USC North, 46-39. Salazar College of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) nipped Springdale, 45-41 in Division-B play of the 16-Under age group. In the other games in the Tropang Growee 10-Under division, ROIS debuted with a 15-9 win over USC South, while Don Bosco nipped USC South, 22-20.

The CYBL 2009 season, which is backed by Growee, opened over the weekend with a total of 26 teams signing up in three different age groups: 16-Under and the Tropang Growee 13 and 10-Under divisions. The teams are divided into two divisions (A & B) in the 16 and 13 under age groups with the stronger teams playing in Division A. Games are played every weekend at the either SHSJ-Mango Campus Gym and Don Bosco College.

Milo BEST: All Basics The Basketball Efficiency Scientific Training (BEST) Center has been around for 31 years, and it has been at the forefront of doing the most basic of basketball teaching: sticking to the basics. SHS-Ateneo Wins Passerelle Championship

Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu scored its second straight Passerelle Division championship as it overcame the University of the Visayas, 68-61, to rule the 34 th   SBP Passerelle Twin Tournament backed by Milo at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club Gym. The Magis Eagles seized control of the game in the second period, built a commanding lead in the third before fighting off a UV rally in the end game to win the championship. The defending champions took a 17-11 lead after the first period as Joseph Dytian delivered eight points in the period. MVP Joash Cutamora and Rafael Arradaza then combined for 17 points in the second period to put up a 34-25 halftime lead. It was the third period set that broke the game open as they built a 52-32 lead behind three triples of Alden Cainglet and leadership of Jared Bahay. But UV countered to slice the lead to 56-43 by the end of the third period. With momentum on its side, UV put up a furious end-game rally, slicing the lead to six points
