MYBL-Cebu Playoffs Kick Off


It’s playoffs time for the MVPSF Youth Basketball League-Cebu (MYBL-Cebu) as the search for Cebu’s top age group teams resumes this weekend in the tournament’s Division 1 age groups: Under 18, Under 15 and Under 12. Backed by Smart Communications, the MYBL-Cebu will kick off with its quarterfinal round games in all age groups.

In Division 1’s Under 12 age group, top seeds Don Bosco Technical College Cebu and One on One-A drew automatic berths to the semifinals. In the quarterfinals, SHS-Ateneo B faces off against Benthel Asia School of Technology (BAST) for the right to face Don Bosco; while Omar Basketball goes up against USC South-A for a semifinal date with One on One-A.

In the Under 15 age group of Division 1, CLBA plays Southwestern University-PHINMA. The UV Passerelle B team plays Don Bosco-A. BAST goes up against Team Millennials, while USPF-A matches up against One on One-C.

In the Under 18 age group of Division 1, SHS-Ateneo Juniors B will play on Sunday against the winner of tomorrow’s elimination round game between the Sisters of Mary School-Boystown and PAREF Springdale.

In regular season games of the tournament backed by Cebu Landmasters Inc. and PAGCOR, PAREF Springdale (2-0) faces One on One B (2-1) in an Under 12 Division 2 game to decide who moves on to the next round. Talisay (3-0) seeks to sweep its group as it plays PAREF Springdale (0-2) in an Under 15 Division 2 game.

The MYBL-Cebu has attracted some 118 teams that are spread to three age groups: Under 18, 15 and 12. All age groups have two divisions, with Division 1 composed of the competitive teams and Division 2 formed for developmental teams.

Milo BEST: All Basics The Basketball Efficiency Scientific Training (BEST) Center has been around for 31 years, and it has been at the forefront of doing the most basic of basketball teaching: sticking to the basics. This is the primary content of the Milo-sponsored BEST Center basketball clinics that have become an institution in Philippine basketball. “We teach the fundamentals, lahat ng klaseng fundamentals ng basketball — that’s our philosophy, dahil sabi nila, basketball is just a series of fundamentals,” said Nic, who was inspired to bring the concept of basketball clinics to the Philippines 31 years ago when budding players at that time had no formal training in the sport. SHS-Ateneo Wins Passerelle Championship

Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu scored its second straight Passerelle Division championship as it overcame the University of the Visayas, 68-61, to rule the 34 th   SBP Passerelle Twin Tournament backed by Milo at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club Gym. The Magis Eagles seized control of the game in the second period, built a commanding lead in the third before fighting off a UV rally in the end game to win the championship. The defending champions took a 17-11 lead after the first period as Joseph Dytian delivered eight points in the period. MVP Joash Cutamora and Rafael Arradaza then combined for 17 points in the second period to put up a 34-25 halftime lead. It was the third period set that broke the game open as they built a 52-32 lead behind three triples of Alden Cainglet and leadership of Jared Bahay. But UV countered to slice the lead to 56-43 by the end of the third period. With momentum on its side, UV put up a furious end-game rally, slicing the lead to six points
