Don Bosco Teams Win in MYBL-Cebu Playoffs
Don Bosco Technical College-Cebu started out its playoffs
journey with two wins at the MVPSF Youth Basketball League-Cebu backed by Smart
Communications, at the Sacred Heart School Mango Avenue campus. DBTC eked out a
47-43 win over UV Passerelle-B in the Under 15 Division 1 quarterfinals while
their elder counterparts tamed SWU-PHINMA, 58-47, in the Under 18 Division 1
quarterfinals.

Tapic played the role of fireman for the Don Bosco Under 15 side as he doused
the end-game rally of UV to tow the Greywolves to the semifinals. Up 36-31 at
the end of the third period, Don Bosco caved in to a UV rally that cut the lead
to 36-34, 5:05 left in the game. Tapic then scored eight of Don Bosco’s next
ten points, including two clutch triples to give them a 46-39 lead with eleven
ticks left. Tapic ended the game with 12 points and three rebounds as Chris Hernando
had an all around game nine points, four rebounds, five assists and five
steals. In the Under 18 Division 1 quarterfinals, Don Bosco led the Baby Cobras
from start to finish before stepping off the gas pedal for the win. They jumped
to leads of 21-2, 34-15 and 49-24 at the end of each stanza before coasting to
the win. Jason Almero had 12 points while Soysoy Escobido had seven points five
boards, five assists and two blocked shots for the Greywolves.
In other Under 15 Division 1 quarterfinal round games, CLBA
trounced SWU-PHINMA, 60-35. Junel Colubio led CLBA with 12 points and 10
rebounds as Dawn Justol had 13 points and six rebounds. Benthel Asia School of
Technology scraped past Team Milennials, 61-55. Raymond Benitez led Benthel
with 21 points 4 assists and 5 steals. USPF cruised to a 75-47 win over One on
One-C. Jonathan Manalili had 16 points, five rebounds and five steals to lead
the Baby Panthers.
In an Under 12 Division 1 quarterfinal round game, Omar
Basketball won over USC South-A, 56-36. John Paul Gequilan had 11 points and
four rebounds for Omar Basketball. In regular season games, Sisters of Mary School-Boystown
(3-1) earned a spot in the playoffs after ousting PAREF Springdale (2-2), 61-27,
in an Under 18 Division 1 game. PAREF-Springdale nipped One in One-B, 47-46, in
an Under 12 Division 2 game. Talisay humbled PAREF Springdale, 67-19, in an
Under 15 Division 2 game. The playoff games of the tournament also backed by
Cebu Landmasters Inc. and PAGOR resume next week with the Division 2’s Friendly
Finale to be played, too.
