CYBL Launches Under 10 3X3 Games

The Cebu Youth Basketball League adds a twist to its games as it launches the CYBL Under 10 3X3 Fiesta series of games today, October 5, at the Sacred Heart School Mango Avenue campus gym. With 18 teams signed up for today’s Leg 1, the league hopes to make the game both more fun for the youngest age group of basketball and also give them the chance to hone their skills.

“The 3X3 approach is intended to provide Under 10 age group players the chance to harness their skills in a more appropriate venue vis-à-vis having them play the full court five-on-five game,” technical supervisor Rey Cañete said. He added that in the full-court game, Under 10 players don’t touch the ball too often and therefore can’t develop their basketball skills such as ball-handling, dribbling, shooting and passing. “Mas mo dagan pa sila kaysa gunit ug bola,” he added. Another highlight of these games is that all teams will get to play in at least three 3X3 games. Moreover, game officials will do more coaching and guiding than actual officiating to help the young players develop their skills. While the teams will play in a round robin series of games, no champions will be declared, in line with the main objective of having the players work on their basketball skills.

Leading the teams are five teams of players born 2009 or later are five teams from SHS-Ateneo de Cebu, four teams from USC South, two teams each from the City of Talisay, Carmen Christian School and St. Benedict Child Education Centre, and a team each from PAREF Springdale, Basak San Nicolas, and USPF. They have been divided into four groups that will play a round robin of 3X3 games per group. The series will be played through a series of legs of half-day games that will be played between the months of October until March 2019. More teams have signified their intention to join the next legs.
